Pride, Incorporated is a local, non-profit organization dedicated to community beautification. Our mission is to promote civic pride and general beautification in River Bend communities, and to support an educational program to stimulate public interest in beautification efforts.
Pride, Inc. was created in 1965 and incorporated in 1966. A group of concerned citizens met at the home of Dr. Gordon F. Moore in those early days, sharing their concerns about the future of our communities. They recognized the need for an organization that would encourage beautification of public parks, roadways and lands throughout the area. Jack Barban, Pride, Inc.’s first Executive Director, worked closely with Dr. Moore and the other founding fathers to successfully promote their vision of a cleaner, more beautiful community.
Over the years, Pride, Incorporated has coordinated hundreds of projects which have fulfilled that mission. Our volunteers have worked tirelessly to remove tons of litter from our streets and highways. They have donated thousands of hours to the Bucket Brigade, a project which paints homes for neighbors who are physically or financially unable to do it themselves. They have identified neighborhoods that needed attention and improved their appearance through specific beautification projects.
Today, many of those programs are still in existence. The Bucket Brigade paints between 50 – 60 homes each year. Our street tree and memorial tree programs continue to enhance the beauty of our parks and roadways. The Adopt-a-Highway program ensures that litter does not get out of control. Our Student Pride representatives demonstrate that our young people are eager and willing to continue this mission in future generations.
The Board of Directors of Pride, Inc. want to take this opportunity to honor the thousands of volunteers who have supported us over the past 41 years. We will continue to nurture our partnerships with those groups and individuals that have the power and the desire to make a difference in the appearance of local neighborhoods. We support those volunteers who believe that our communities are worth the effort.
Pride, Inc. has a proud history. We intend to serve our communities with the same level of commitment that Dr. Moore, Jack Barban and our founding fathers showed almost 40 years ago.
